The green urban oasis is laid out as an alpine circuit in an eventful topography between rocks, Bachtobel and green meadows. According to a historic preservation report, the park is considered a "period-typical, still unique representation of the historic landscape garden."
You climb up a narrow path until the panoramic view unveils itself. In particular, trees which, as so-called primeval relics, were part of the subtropical vegetation native to Switzerland 20 million years ago: sequoia, gingko or magnolia and others. There are also boulders, ancient stones, an SAC hut with a glacier diorama, the observation tower and a pond supplied directly by the Gorner glacier: a green oasis to rest and enjoy.
The Sommerau extends the historic park of the Glacier Garden.
High up on the Sommerau stands the oldest wooden observation tower in Switzerland: it is 11m high and listed as a historical monument.
