Mammoths lived in large parts of Eurasia during the Ice Age 135,000 - 11,000 years ago. The huge tusks were used for defense and to remove snow and branches for food. The 3.40m long glacier garden mammoth tooth is a cast of the original and hangs in the museum's Glacier Salon. It was found in 1948 during gravel extraction for the Rhine embankment development in Weiach (ZH).
